My Summary
About Me
Hi, my name is Nina, I’m a 21 year old recent Psychology graduate from the University of Manchester. I grew up in the lovely Peak District so I’m very fond of the outdoors and nature, especially animals! I would really love to find a position working with a family as I have always loved spending my time helping out with children in various ways.
I have previously volunteered as a reading mentor for an 11 year girl. As well as this, I love reading myself, and also took up any opportunities in my past childcare experiences to read with the children. I am often described as a very empathetic person. I have needed to be patient for working with kids in the past and I think I’m pretty good at remaining calm and patient! And most importantly, I do just genuinely love children and watching them play and learn. I am very imaginative and am very used to having to invent new games and activities for bored children!
I also am proficient in Spanish.
My Experience
I recently worked for 4 months as a Learning Support Assistant at a secondary school in Manchester. I worked closely with year 7 (age 11) students with SEND. I also supported children who had English as an additional language. For this role, I completed in depth safeguarding training.
For 4 years, I worked in a kids club as a playworker in the school holidays. The children who attend are aged between 4-12. My main duties include: facilitating play, reading to the children, cleaning, providing snacks, basic first aid, and dealing with behavioural problems. This role requires a lot of patience but is the best job I have ever had!
As a teenager, I babysat regularly (usually for at least 5 hours a month) for 2 families: a family of 3 children and a family of 2 children. My responsibilities mainly included helping with homework, reading to the children, helping with any pastoral issues, and putting them to bed.
Since becoming a student, I have mentored voluntarily in 2 local secondary schools. This involved supporting the children (aged between 11-14) with both social and academic issues. Lots of these kids struggled with behavioural issues so it could be tricky at times but it was so rewarding!
My Qualifications
BSc Psychology 1:1, 3 A-levels at grades A-A*, 9 GCSEs all A-A**
My Availability
I would ideally like a role that was between 15-35 hours a week, week days only.
