About Me
Hello! My name is Katie and I'm a fully qualified teacher who achieved both my PGDE and a Masters in Education at Glasgow University.
Having a deep understanding that all students learn in different ways, I strive to create lessons that are not only fun to engage with but appropriately paced and tailored to individual needs. By using PowerPoints, videos, educational websites and school certified textbooks, I aim to keep sessions varied and engaging. These material also help create learning objectives that meet both the developmental needs and interests of my students.
Additionally, I ensure that my lessons align with national curriculum frameworks and standards for early, first and second levels.
My Experience
Growing up overseas I had the privilege to work closely with a vast range of children from all ages and backgrounds. I began my volunteering journey at my school in New Delhi, working alongside children in a variety of volunteering ventures. I quickly realised how much I enjoyed watching children achieve in a nurtured environment and the intrinsic value that an education can offer. So in 2022, after years of on and off volunteering as a teaching assistant, Girlguide helper and charity mentor, I undertook my PGDE at the university of Glasgow.
In 2023 I was a classroom teacher down on the Scottish Borders where I had the opportunity to expand my skills as a practitioner. Not only developing my curriculum based knowledge and understanding but my ability to teach creatively, effectively and empathetically. Through a range of professional development opportunities outside of the classroom, I have also enhanced my teaching practices, whilst keeping in touch with current research and pedagogical approaches.
This past year I took a step away from the classroom to focus on achieving my MEd in Education. I have learnt so much during this year of intensive research but am very much looking forward to getting back to working with students 1-1!
In my spare time I volunteer as a Girlguide leader to a local Brownie unit and with the Glasgow based charity, Right There, as a mentor for children from care-experienced backgrounds.
I absolutely love animals and so also volunteer to look after dogs through the app Borrowmydoggy!
