Hello parents! My name is Floss, I’m 18 years old and have just finished my A levels. I’m taking a year out and would love to spend my time working with children.
I’m an outgoing, fun and risk-aware person with a genuine enthusiasm for enabling children to thrive in their emotional, physical and social wellbeing.
I love being active, outdoors and creating new fun educational ways of keeping children engaged and happy.
I come from a large working family and have been lucky enough to receive great childcare when I was growing up. My family and I still have loving relationships with both my Nanny’s and as result I would hope that the relationships I form with the children I look after will be memorable and significant for them.
I want the parents I work for to not only feel their children are in safe hands but that they are actively excited for their children to spend time in my care.
I’ve spent half my life in Cornwall and half in London and I love what both these two places have to offer. Forest school and nature based play was central to my early years and I love exploring outdoors with children.
My Experience
I’m only 18 however I have had a number of relevant experiences that demonstrate my natural abilities with children as well as my diligence and responsibility.
Childcare assistant. Primary school after-school club. Role included:
- Preparing nutritious snacks/meals for the children
- Arranging engaging activities such as crafts, sports and baking adapting them for different ages (3-11) to ensure mental and physical development
- Organising circle time, show and tell and story time
- Supporting children with homework, projects and reading
- Overseeing drop-off and parent pickup
- Ensuring children’s safety at all times
- Cleaning to ensure a clear safe space
Children’s party supervisor.
- Sole responsibility for opening and locking the community centre and park gates ensuring the premises are safe and secure
- Meeting and greeting families who have hired the centre
- Meeting and organising 3rd party entertainers e.g. performance artists, musicians and bouncy castles
- Running activities with large groups of children (up to 30) e.g. parachute games, supervising outdoor play and competitions
- Cleaning to ensure the premises are prepared for the next family
Babysitting.

- Helping with homework and reading to help the children meet their developmental milestones
- Cleaning and bathing the children in preparation for bed time
- Housework such a hoovering, mopping, washing dishes and clothes to ensure the house is left tidy
- Taking the children on trips to parks, museums, supervising play-dates and clubs
Peer mentoring, academic mentor and mental health prefect.
- Selected by the senior leadership team for my peer mentoring and academic role and voted by peers and teachers for my prefecture role
- Received safe guarding training on symptoms and signs of abuse and self-harm
- Supporting children (ranging from year 7-13) on their school and home-life struggles
- Organising weekly meetings with vulnerable students
