My Summary
About Me
Passionate and friendly English graduate offering private tuition. I have over 5 years in the education sector working with all ages including children with special educational needs
My Experience
I am an English graduate with over 5 years working in education. I have worked with a huge variety of students at different levels with different needs and am adept at adapting my teaching style to individuals.
I have a very good rapport with young people and know how to communicate with them to get the best out of them. The most important thing about teaching is encouragement and building confidence in a student so this forms a big part of my teaching method. I also feel passionate about helping young people, who are perhaps struggling at school, to reach their full potential. All sorts of things can play into this and I've seen first hand that the right kind of nurturing and support can make all the difference. But most of all I'm passionate about helping students to love learning, to be curious and discover the joy in their subjects.
I have always been an avid reader and as an English tutor I like to share this love of reading with my students and get them enthused by literature and the magic of reading.
I have over five years of classroom experience working with students from reception to A-level. A large portion of this has been working with SEN students meaning I am very understanding of an each individual's needs and different learning styles and am able to adapt my approach accordingly. I have developed strategies to engage with students with ADHD, Autism and other learning differences. I have also taken on a pastoral role. During the pandemic I was working virtually as a mentor for A-Level students, supporting them in their studies and making sure they were feeling able to access their online teaching. I was liaising with teachers about the student's progress and engagement and then discussing this and any concerns with the students. I was able to lend an ear to the students and provide strategies and encouragement to stay on track.
My approach is very individualised. I like to spend time getting to know a student to gain an understanding of their needs and learning styles, but also to learn what interests them so that I can incorporate this into my teaching method to help them engage with the topic. I employ a positive learning approach based on praise and encouragement, starting with 'what went well' before moving on to the 'it would be even better if...'. I believe the best thing a tutor can do is help build a student's confidence in a subject.

BA Hons English Literature. MA Acting. Excellent GCSE's and A Levels
