My Summary
About Me
I grew up in California in the United States with my parents, two younger brothers, two blind cats, and an incredibly energetic dog. Between school and work, I filled my time dancing (too many years of Nutcracker to count), reading (everything Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and Fablehaven), and going out into nature. I love to travel and I lived and studied in Zaragoza, Spain two years ago. This is my first year here in Edinburgh. I study International Relations at the University of Edinburgh and am active in the hillwalking, knitting, and jazz societies.
My services are versatile, as I have a wide variety of experience. I’m happy to do school pick ups, activity drop offs, and bedtime. To fill the in-between time, I love coming up with arts and crafts, games of imagination, and outdoor fun. I have so many lovely memories of baking green, gummy-topped cakes with the kids I care for, our long reading sessions in homemade forts, and excursions to find wild blackberries. Not all children feel and communicate similarly, and so it is important to me that I adapt my nurture style to best care for each individually. I work to celebrate kids’ imagination and curiosity and cultivate positive socio-emotional development.
Although I am currently employed as a nanny during the week, I please feel free to reach out to me about any Friday evening/weekend ad hoc care needs.
My Experience
My first job ever was as a babysitter. Somehow someone trusted a 12 year old to care for their child. Since, I’ve worked for over twenty families within my community back home, working weekends and the occasional weeknights, between five and 20 hours per week. I’ve looked after all ages, from infant to pre-teen, playing, reading, building and creating, cooking, and putting them down to bed. The past few summers I’ve worked as a nanny, spending 40 hours per week with kids between four and nine, organising small excursions, playing around the house, baking tons of cookies, dropping off and picking up from camps, creating iMovie blockbusters, and helping with summer homework.
Since 2017 I’ve held jobs as teacher and camp counsellor within various educational programs throughout my community. During the school terms, I worked as a swim instructor at a local pool, teaching eight hours per week of swimming safely and technique to children under 12. Over school breaks, I continued at the same swim school as a camp leader at their summer camps, as well as working as an outdoor educator at an educational farm in my hometown, working 40 hours per week. I designed curriculum, led instruction, and provided social-emotional support for groups of six to 20 nursery and primary school-aged students in various activities, including nature exploration, farm animal care, gardening, swimming, baking, and arts and crafts activities.
In my spare time, I’ve made it a priority to volunteer with child care and activity groups, including an afterschool program at the elementary school near my house and at my childhood dance school. While in Spain, I volunteered at a nursery, responsible for the children under one year old, waking them from their afternoon naps, feeding, and changing them, and overseeing their playtime with the older kids. Here in Edinburgh, I work with the charity organisation Children’s Holiday Venture, spending fortnightly evenings with a group of ten eight to 12 year olds in need of emotional, social, and confidence support.
My Qualifications
I am a nurturing, creative, bilingual, and experienced babysitter studying at the University of Edinburgh. I have worked in childcare for seven years, employed in both babysitting/nannying and official education work. I am trained in first aid as well as farm and swim education, and I speak Spanish fluently.

Ilenia enabled my wife & I to enjoy our first evening out in months, leaving her in charge of our demanding 2 wee boys. She was punctual, appeared completely comfortable & confident, & has such a warm & friendly demeanour. We arrived home to find the boys sleeping soundly having had a really fun time with Ilenia, & are still asking when they can see her again. Totally recommend her - thank you!
