My Summary
Twin & Sleep Specialist Maternity Nurse In London “Asking For Help Is The First Step!’
About Me
I’m Lucia, a mum of two and I live in London. I’m a professional career Newborn Care Specialist, Maternity Nurse, Night Nanny, Parent Educator as well as a junior Maternity Nurse & Night Nanny Mentor. I’m also an internationally certified holistic Infant & Toddler Sleep Consultant. I started my professional career as a newborn care specialist in London in 1996 and have 28+ years extensive, continuously ongoing experience working with newborns and infants, premature babies and twins/multiples. I’m happy to provide several checkable references from previous and most recent clients upon request.
Apart from working with parents for a few weeks/months following birth, for those parents who don’t require a daily maternity nurse, I also help troubleshoot all types of common or more complicated issues with their newborn, such as breastfeeding , nipple refusal, milk supply (too little or too much), weaning off the breast, formula and bottle feeding, mixed feeding, excessive crying, colic, reflux, jaundice, diarrhoea and constipation, managing post immunisation fever, newborn acne, bottle refusal and so on. I can help prevent snd cure the worst of nappy rashes that are so common in newborns. My biggest expertise and passion is in solving any kind or sleep issues in children 3 months to 5 years of age.
Due to running sleep and troubleshooting consultations in the evenings, as well as private postnatal group classes, I mainly offer daytime maternity nursing services. I can, however, be available at various times depending on my bookings so please enquire.
PLEASE NOTE: I do not offer 24 hour round the clock maternity nursing services.
I absolutely love taking care of newborns but I’m equally very passionate about supporting new mums at the same time, emotionally and mentally, especially during those first few weeks and months following birth, that can be so tiring and challenging. I help parents implement strategies for tackling a range of day and night-time issues in newborns, such as colic, reflux, inconsolable crying and baby not settling well into or throughout the night.
Upon your arrival home from the hospital, I can help you get settled, assist and advice you on breast, bottle or combination feeding, help with changing, clipping your baby’s nails, bathing and providing complete care for your newborn. I will also demonstrate how to swaddle your newborn safely and show you the most effective techniques for settling and winding. I will further teach you how to recreate the precious 4th trimester, as well as the best environment for sleep. Believe me when I say, that it is indeed a MYTH that newborn babies can’t be put on a regular sleep and feed schedule from day one. In a safe and supportive way, I have so far in 28 years managed to put every single newborn on a gentle and predictable routine, which in turn encouraged them to sleep better and for longer, throughout the day and night. This also applies to premature babies, and is even more important for parents of twins and triplets, which is where my tandem feeding expertise truly comes into play. A consistency that a gentle routine provides, will no doubt give your baby positive sleep associations from the beginning and lead to good and healthy sleep habits in the future.
I’m trained to recognise signs of PPD/PND and offer emotional support and advice to help tackle this. The latest scientific research tells us that sleep deprivation is very closely linked to postnatal depression and anxiety. My approach to help prevent this from happening, is in ensuring that parents of babies under my care are well rested and they use the time I’m there to care for their baby wisely, to catch up on lost sleep. This extra rest allows parents to be at their best, so by the time I finish my shift, they will be able to take over and provide the highest level of care possible for their little bundle of joy.
With a science and evidence-based approach as a holistic sleep consultant, I want to share my knowledge and understanding about the importance of sleep. I believe it’s one of the best gift parents can give to their children (and to themselves) in the long-term. By creating heathy sleep habits early on, having a flexible schedule, all adapted to your own personal beliefs and lifestyle, parents can get the sleep they need and deserve! My most favourite motto is “Sleep is a biological need, not a luxury!”
I have created a fundraiser (please enquire for the link) for vulnerable new mums in order to help prevent PND/PPD. If you are able to and would like to make a donation please contact me. Thank you.
