Sally’s Playhouse
About Me
Hello, my name is Sally. I am a child minder based in Sutton Coldfield
We currently have spaces available, so please message us with your enquiries.
My Experience
Sally’s Playhouse has been running for 12 years.
I have always loved working with children and it was my dream from a young age. After 16 years of working with young children, I am proud to say that Sally’s Playhouse is my dream realised, and I am now a registered childminder.
Prior to running Sally’s Playhouse, I was employed as the Officer in Charge of a 53 place private day nursery. For six years, I carried out this role with commitment and professionalism, and I was responsible for a team of 12 staff and the day-to-day running of the nursery.
In this time, I have set up and monitored planning and Learning Journeys under the EYFS and have since gained an excellent knowledge of observation, assessing, planning and evaluation.
Previous to this role, I was a nursery practitioner / preschool coordinator for 10 years working with children from 0-11. Throughout these ten years I helped to redefine the groups and moved the nursery forward with great success.
My assistant has many years of experience working in childcare. She has experience working in several nurseries. She has also worked as a teaching assistant in a school before working with myself. We have worked together for almost 7 years and have a great working relationship!
Through my passion for raising the standards for children I researched various articles with the aim to train the staff in my setting. Such articles were:
- Confident, Capable and Creative: supporting boys' achievements
Through this knowledge I helped to set up a construction area using large cardboard boxes to make castles, keys , hard hats and large paper to draw maps and roads. This stimulated the children and made learning through play more successful than it had been previously.
- Eat better Start better: voluntary food and drink guidelines for early years settings
From this I gained an insight into how to further improve the meals in my setting, and I continue to ensure my children eat better to be better.
When your child first visits Sally’s Playhouse, I like to find out what their interests are. This is through discussions with the people who know them best – their family. I also use the information on the admission form and my own observation skills to determine what your child does and doesn’t like and we strive to make that child as happy and as comfortable as possible.
Sally’s Playhouse provides many learning opportunities and different activities to stimulate your child. I assess my own practice using the Early Years Foundation Stage ‘Am I Getting It Right’ technique. We use planned and unplanned observations to fine tune activities and learning. My vast experience in child care means that I am able to understand that children’s interests can change on a regular basis or may remain the same for some time, and by continuously observing your child I will know if and when their interests change.
At Sally’s Playhouse, we learn everything through play. I adapt the activities to meet all of the children needs, and this helps to make these activities interesting and exciting – ultimately enhancing the learning according to the stage of development each individual child is at.
Activities that the children will have the opportunity to explore are custard, jelly and pasta play, themed home corners, themed days, beach days, dressing up days, party days, themed interests, and cooking days. We will also be adding objects to sand, water, PlayDough and food play.
We have umbrellas, rain macs and wellies by the back door so we can go out in all weathers to explore more, and there is a park located two minutes away from Sally’s Playhouse which we access on a daily basis. Your child will always be supervised and never let outside alone.
At Sally’s Playhouse, we celebrate the achievements of all our children. We do this by:
Displaying the children’s work on the ground floor
Awarding children the ‘Star of the Month’ for good behaviour
Special name recognition
We also invite the children to participate in day-to-day activities, such as food preparation, setting the table and tidying away.
If you have any questions about any of our activities or practices, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
