My Experience

Nanny: I have previously been a nanny to three children ages 18 months, 7 years and 9 years. I ensured that the parent’s preferences were respected so that they felt comfortable to leave the children in my care. Additionally, I was able to prioritise the children’s safety whilst creating a fun and exciting environment for them through activities. Moreover, I facilitated ‘homework time’ by taking initiative to stretch and challenge the children in their learning whilst making it an engaging and enjoyable process.

Dance Teacher Assistant: My role was to recognise who needed support technically or emotionally, particularly for any disabled children. Regularly, I was trusted to lead the class. This was sometimes at short notice so I had to have the confidence to improvise in a calm, professional manner, and feedback to the parents at the end of each lesson.

Busy Bees Nursery: I showed my versatility by working with children of various ages who had a range of needs. I learnt how to evaluate how the young children were feeling emotionally, and as a result, I organised activities to enable them to feel safe and happy away from their parents.

Primary School (Work Experience): I was able to help the children with their studies by adapting my communication to the age and level of the individual. Sometimes, I worked with small groups where I made learning interactive and exciting whilst maintaining the safety of each pupil.

I have also gained experience that is not directly with children, but illustrates the fact that I am a trustworthy and caring person.

Oxfam Bookshop Volunteer: I was ready to help where needed: whether it was on the till; helping customers; or sorting and pricing new stock. Throughout this experience, I was able to accurately follow my employer’s instructions, and I demonstrated the ability to communicate effectively with my colleagues.

Premier Court Care Home (Work Experience): By working with energy and enthusiasm, I was able to invest excitement into each activity, promoting the residents’ enjoyment of every day. This placement taught me how to further adapt my communication skills which enabled me to make each experience inclusive to all.
