My Summary
About Me
My name is Charlie, I grew up in Herefordshire and I am the youngest of three girls. I am bubbly, creative, organised and fun! I have had 7 years of childcare experience so far including working in a nursery, a residential summer camp in America and I am also a qualified Art Teacher! I have worked in both the private and state sector but recently took a break from teaching in January to pursuit interests in the events world and have worked as an events coordinator for the past 4 months at the Royal Air Force club. In my spare time I run a small business called The Artistry Academy where I run art classes for both adults and children in print, painting and jewellery making. I run these classes for children’s birthday parties, hen nights and brand collaborations. I am going back into teaching at the start of September but I am looking for permanent summer work in nannying. I am happy to organise all activities for the children both in and outside of the house, help with back to school prep as well as being opening to being a family PA and housekeeper to help your family during the hectic summer holiday period. For the right family I would be happy to continue nannying during all school holidays and some weekends and evenings if needed.
My Experience
Founder - The Artistry Academy September 2023 - Present (Children aged 8+)
I have a small business called The Artistry Academy running adult workshops in Printing, Painting and Jewellery Making. I am hoping to expand my company further by hosting children’s birthday parties and seasonal art events. I am still in the early stages of this venture and I have a lot to learn however so far I have received great support and have sold out classes over the autumn term and Christmas break.
Art Teacher (Maternity Cover) - Kingston Grammar School 0.8 September 2023 - December 2023 - (Children aged 11-18)
Working at Kingston Grammar in a well-established department has been a great experience for me and developing my subject pedagogy. Working in the independent sector again I have been able to immerse myself in the wider school community and I feel confident running trips, specialist workshops and multiple extra-curricular activities. All students received an A* or A in their A-Levels and I have been lucky enough to help develop curriculums in order for students to achieve top marks in every criterion.
Art Teacher - John Masefield High School Full Time - September 2022 - July 2023 (Children aged 11 - 18)
I am committed to being the best educator I can be and am dedicated to expanding my subject knowledge by learning from others. I am an abstract artist with a particular interest in print, collage and sculpture. I have gained an invaluable amount of experience at JMHS due to working in a brand-new Art Department. Both myself and the Head of Department were new to John Masefield High School this year and have developed a creative and forward-thinking curriculum for all year groups together. This includes incorporating artists and artworks from all cultures, countries, and genders to develop a wider knowledge of art and its origins, for students.
I loved being a Year 7 form tutor year and I believe that every child should be listened to and understood. My pastoral experience has showcased that I am able to work effectively as part of a team. I am always keen to learn from others and I make a real effort to continuously develop professional relationships with other staff members from all departments.
Trainee Art Teacher - Hereford Cathedral School / John Masefield High School Full Time- September 2021 - July 2022 (Children 11-18)
Hereford Cathedral School was the first placement school of my PGCE year. Here I taught Art and Textiles Lessons to students aged 11-18. I ran specialist workshops during my time here, and school clubs and was able to organise and attend school trips. I also helped to host exhibition events throughout the year.
During my training at John Masefield, I had the opportunity to teach Art lessons to ages 11-18 as well as Photography lessons to the sixth form. I have had experience being a form tutor for all year groups which allowed me to build strong relationships with the students of all year groups. I began my own Ceramics Club as well as teaching Drama lessons which allowed me to contribute across different art curriculums.
Art Programme Coordinator / Camp Counsellor - Camp America - June to August 2019 (Children aged 7-16)
Full-time work in Maine USA at a Summer camp for girls between the ages of 8-15. I was an Arts Programme Coordinator and Camp Counsellor for two months. I taught arts activities throughout the day and acted as a ‘camp mother’ in the evenings putting them to sleep, making sure they were eating well and sorting out any home issues they had or issues between campers. It was a 24 hour job as we lived in cabins with the children and were available to help them at any hour of the day and night.
Nursery Assistant - Kings Hawford - Summer 2018 (Children Aged 2-5)
I was hired as a nursery assistant to look after children between the ages of 2 -5. I was given the tasks of teaching them to swim, running craft and outdoor activities as well as providing food and drinks throughout the day. The job taught me patience as well as responsibility and vigilance and to always bring joy and positivity to the workplace.
