My Summary
About Me
I grew up in a small city in Salisbury with my parents and an older brother, I am very close with my family and spend a lot of time with them when I can. I am currently studying a masters in law at the University of Bristol and I’m really enjoying it, I currently treat it as a 9-5 and take 3 yoga classes a week so this is my routine , I am open to change as necessary if I find a family! In the future I hope to travel more before settling into a career as this is a big passion of mine, I have been to many countries and love learning about new cultures. I love good food and am a fairly confident home cook, I love to go out for coffee and cake (I don't drink so this is my alternative to pubs!), and visit some of the many amazing restaurants in Bristol. I also love yoga, dogs, going for walks and exploring new places. I have often been told I am very smiley, positive and friendly!
My Experience
My main experience comes from a month spent in New Zealand as a live-in nanny for a girl (22months) and boy (5yrs). I dropped the boy at school during the day, and following that looked after the girl throughout the day. We generally went to the park, beach, and cafes, played with toys, danced, did some sensory play, baking etc. I also ensured they both had suitable food (and usually made dinner for the parents when they got home from work too), changed nappies, encouraged speech with the young girl, put her down for nap time and helped with bath time. I also travelled with the family so helped with the children in airports and new environments where it can often be difficult to keep routine.
I have done lots of informal babysitting work for family friends. Starting with a young baby and through to ages 6-7. I generally took the older children to parks for picnics and places where they have the freedom to do some exploring. My main responsibility was to ensure the children were in a safe environment to explore some creative play.
I volunteered for a children’s fitness club (ages 5-12) for three months. My main responsibilities here were to ensure equipment was being used safely. I was later hired by the same company to assist with holiday camps and birthday parties. My main responsibilities here were to encourage involvement and boost confidence, as well as make sure it was a happy and safe environment. This role mainly included Zumba-style dancing, arts and crafts, and other fitness-related games.
My mum was a teaching assistant for year 1 for many years and on the days when my school did not cross over, I went in to help out. I often helped with reading, maths exercises, arts and crafts, and other school activities. I also went on a few school trips where I would have sole responsibility for a couple of children at a time, mainly encouraging safety when crossing roads, etc., and also boosting their confidence to ask questions and learn about new things.
Within my family, we have a 8-year-old boy who I have spent lots of time with since he was born, more recently with sole responsibility. I often take him on walks to new places such as a local community farm, bake, read and do arts and crafts, such as painting pottery, making stickers, magnets and cards for celebrations. I love taking him to explore new things as I can see his interest to learn and it’s really rewarding to see his confidence grow.
My Qualifications
I have no formal qualifications for childcare but would be willing to get first aid trained and DBS checked if necessary. I have references (including the lady I nannied for in NZ) open to being contacted with a couple of babysitting employers quoted below.
"I would have no hesitation offering Maddie a position. She is not only hardworking but she takes pride in her work. She is also a lovely, kind bright young lady. She is great with children and they love her."
"Hi there. The above doesn't reflect the way we know Maddie nor what she has done for us. Maddie and her brother, Ben, and her parents have been family friends for many years - upwards of 10. We employed Maddie for 3 years plus between the age of 13 and 16 (approximately) to help clean in our house and she was brilliant. Just her natural self - so always on time, cheerful and sunny, and hard working, with no time off unless previously agreed with us. A great work ethic. She left at the age of 16 to do other work in the retail sector in her A'level years. Over the past 5 years or so, she has occasionally looked after our grandchildren (as they have arrived) who are now aged 4, 7 and nearly 9 and I have absolutely no reservation in saying how we welcomed her availability and into our home - she's a natural with children, playing with them and making them feel loved and secure and at all times I felt they were safe and happy with her in our home. I also felt confident that she was totally honest with us and also that if she was worried, she would contact me immediately if she was worried and share any concerns she had with me. It so happened that she didn't have to.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any query - let me have your phone number and I will call you, with Maddie's prior permission.
Rose Tranah"
Academic awards
I achieved 6 and above in 10 GCSE's consisting of the core subjects, Food Preparation and Nutrition, German, and Geography.
My A-Levels are in Business (A), RS/Philosophy and Ethics (A), and Geography (B).
I have an undergraduate degree in International Business Management.
My Availability
I am currently looking at live-in nanny opportunities for September onwards. I would be available before and after school on all days (I have not yet received my timetable but I should be able to make all my lectures/seminars fit within school times, and if not watch recordings), and often have time in between which I could be available if necessary.
I am available most weekends though I would preferably work only on weekdays with the occasional weekend when necessary as I like to visit home or use the weekends to catch up on any uni work.
