Hi, I'm Susan. I am an OFSTED registered childminder living in Allenton, Derby with my two amazing teenagers, Callum and Lauren. I have been a mum for almost 18 yeas and a childminder for 13 years.
My Experience
I have been an OFSTED registered Childminder since November 2011 and have been inspected twice, receiving a GOOD grade on both inspections.
I offer a warm, loving and safe home-from-home environment (pet and smoke free) where your child can learn, develop, thrive and reach their full potential whilst having fun. I work closely with parents and other providers to achieve the best outcomes for the children and I am committed to providing an inclusive environment and a flexible service to parents.
I accept 15 and 30 hour funded places for children from 9 months to school age with no additional charges to be paid and will offer stretched funding where possible for parents who require year round care. I accept tax free childcare and childcare vouchers.
During the week I like to take regular outings to local parks, forest school, toddler groups, soft plays, visits to local farms, library and shops.
At home I have a large range of age appropriate toys, imaginary and role-play, dressing up clothes, musical instruments, toy kitchen, doll’s pushchairs, small world houses and characters, cars and garages, books, jigsaws and games. For outside use there are cars, trikes, scooters, slides, swings and a playhouse. My garden is child friendly, and it is a fully enclosed to ensure the children are as safe as possible.
I hold a full clean British driving licence and always have access to a car which is fully insured for business use.

NCFE CACHE Level 3 Award for Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators in Early Year Settings

Paediatric First Aid
Studied British Sign Language to BSL Level 2
My Availability
Please contact me for availability. I currently have a vacancy on a Monday but will have vacancies from September.
My hours are Monday to Thursday 08:00 - 17:30 and 08:00 - 16:00 on Fridays. Please contact me if you need an earlier start or later finish as this can be negotiated.
I am available for drop off/collection at Shelton Lock Infant/Junior School.

Sue has been my daughter's childminder since she was 4 months old (she is now 8!). I cannot recommend her highly enough. Sue has gone above and beyond supporting me with my childcare needs. My daughter has a very close bond with Sue and has recently been referring to her as Aunty Sue! She provides outstanding care and enriching activities for all of the children in her care. I trust her implicitly and has over the years become a very good friend and confidant. Quite frankly...we would be lost without her.

Sue has been our childminder for over three and a half years, and I honestly don't know what we would have done without her. From the moment my son (now 7) started with her, she has been a consistent, calming, and supportive presence in our lives. More than just a childminder, Sue has become a trusted friend and a cherished part of our extended family.
My son has ADHD, and like many children with additional needs, he can sometimes face challenges with behaviour and focus. Sue has always approached him with such understanding, patience, and kindness. Her experience and calm manner make a world of difference. She knows how to handle tricky moments without ever making him feel different or singled out.
What really stands out is the variety and creativity she brings to each day. From nature walks to hands-on activities in her home, my child is always engaged in something fun and stimulating. Every pickup feels like a little surprise—he’s always excited to tell me what they’ve been up to.
Sue has also been flexible and accommodating whenever we’ve needed to adjust her hours slightly, which has been such a relief as a single mum in medical school. That kind of support is rare and so appreciated.
Most importantly, my son feels completely at home with her. He’s built a bond with Sue that’s incredibly special, like a close aunt he knows he can always count on. He’s free to be his full, energetic, curious self in her care, and I have complete peace of mind knowing he’s in such good hands.
If you're looking for someone who is genuinely caring, experienced with additional needs, and truly invested in your child's happiness and development, I can't recommend Sue highly enough.

Sue has been looking after our son for over 2 years now. He has started with her as 9 months old baby. As a first time mum I have been searching for a childminder for some time but couldn't find the right person. I was anxious about everything and had tones of questions. When I met Sue I had no doubts. She appeared so kind, warm and caring. She has answered all my questions and put me at ease, she had all desired training and experience. Since then I had never worried about our baby being under her care. She provides outstanding care and her house is full of love. She has had such a positive inpact on our son development, creating environment where he feels safe and can learn but also has so much fun. Sue is very creative person and always thinks of something to do with him. She establishes be. oundaries when has to. They have been having endless outgoings adventures and verious activities inside her house and garden. She pays so much attention to each child and you can tell that for her caring for children is more than a job. She always updates me on how things are throughout the day but I wouldn't have to ask as I know he is fine. Her communications skills are excellent, she is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. As a family we were so lucky to have found her as she made this part of our life nothing but positive experience and our son truly adores her. Thank you Sue. Forever grateful Natalia and Stuart.

Sue has been providing childcare for me for the last 4 years and has always been warm, caring, professional and friendly. She is flexible and adapts what she offers to meet individual needs which is of high priority for children with additional and changing needs. Her house is a true home from home where children are able to relax, be themselves and feel loved and valued. I could not recommend her more highly.
