My Summary
About Me
Hi, I'm Esme, I have 3 years experience working with children and know it's a job I both love doing and thrive in. I have worked in a primary school with children aged 3-11, leading groups for both structured educational work, and fun imaginative play. Providing a nurturing environment where children feel safe and secure is something I pride myself on.
The infectious smile of a happy child, who is given the space to be curious and full of fun is invaluable, it is what makes working with children so uniquely special.
I have worked at a children's ski school, where I developed skills at turning an upset child missing their parent, into a positive happy one. Ready to re-join a group with a smile on their face. This job also involved cooking meals for the children and cleaning up after them. I can provide the all round care needed for your child and know how to keep a space clean and tidy while I do it.
Listening and following the child's lead in creative play is one of the favourite parts of my job and can be key in building a relationship where a child feels supported and heard. In the right environment the young mind is a magical place where pirates and dragons rule the living room and a pile of Lego becomes a mound of gold. I strive to never overlook the importance of this imagination, but instead integrate it into every day otherwise mundane tasks.
I understand the critical nature of this role, the importance of keeping children safe in my care. Currently, I am working with a year 1 pupil on a 1:1 basis. I know every child is different so I am always open to learning more about them as an individual so I can tailor my care and methods to suit them. I have carried out safeguarding training within the last 12 months and have a current DBS.
There's never a boring or slow day working with children, if you take a second to step back, crouch down and allow yourself to be part of their world, anything could be the next adventure. This is why I love the job I do now, and why I would love working and caring for your child/children.
My Experience
Teaching Assistant/ Individual Needs Assistant: June 2021- current
Currently, I am working with a year 1 child on a 1:1 basis. This role involves working closely with the class teacher and adapting the day to day learning to suit the needs of this child. I stay with this pupil over her lunch break, during this time I instigate playground games to encourage social interaction with other children.
Children's Ski School Support Staff: October 2023- April 2024
I was responsible for the care of children unable/unwilling to take part in their lessons. This included corresponding with parents, for example, if a child needed to go home early. The role of this job was to comfort and encourage children (primarily aged 3-5) into re-joining their classes and participating in the group tasks.
After School Club Play Worker: September 2022- current
I have been individually responsible for collecting groups of children, taking registers and creating and leading activities. I also dismissed children securely and safely back to their parents and carers, following strict safeguarding procedures.
Midday Supervising Assistant: June 2021- Current
I set up the dining room, guide and help children with their lunches. Supporting those with specific dietary requirements as well as helping out those who need a little bit more encouragement to eat.
