About Me

I am a mature student studying Psychology with Child Development at the University of East London. My dream is to become a child and family therapist.

To complement my studies I am looking to work 8 to 12 hours a week across 1 or 2 days.

I have been working with children professionally for the past year and have been a caring and fun older sibling to my sister who is ten years younger.

Children are such a joy to be around. I am motivated by their energy and inquisitive nature. I often find myself rediscovering the world through their eyes and truly feel a sense of reward from interacting with them.

My mission is to support young people and families in living confident and happy lives while having fun in my journey through life.

My Experience

Childcare: Nanny

May 2023 to July 2024

For the last year I have been solely responsible for looking after a 1-year-old three days a week in London; aiding her development to blossom into a bright and happy toddler. Tasks included organising and implementing fun developmental activities, preparing and cooking nutritious meals, bottle feeding, nappy changing, bath time, putting down for nap and bedtime.

I orchestrated days out, taking her to museums, parks and swimming, and researched and attended toddler groups locally such as music, acting and sensory play. This increased confidence in the toddler and supported her social skills. Playing in the child’s home environment is equally important in encouraging creativity and boosting self-esteem. Home activities included dancing and learning nursery rhymes, baking and preparing meals, role play with self-directed play, story time, arts and crafts, picture games and puzzles.

Additionally, I created a fun daily diary to log the child’s meals, sleep, health, activities and milestones to keep parents informed and as a memento.

Work-Based-Learning: Volunteered at the Orion Primary School (London) supporting children with disabilities and learning differences

Feb to March 2024

I spent my time between the mainstream and the special educational needs department (SEND). In SEND I supported the teacher and teaching assistants (TA) in a small class of 6 autistic children, working one-on-one with the children and getting involved in group activities. The former included listening to the children read and supporting them with maths and science. As for the latter, I assisted the children in class baking and oversaw a practical class in veterinary. I absolutely loved my time in the SEND department, it has pushed me to want to work more with these amazing children.

In the mainstream school, I was partnered with children with learning differences. Some children had moved from overseas and had little English, so my job was to motivate and encourage them and ensure they had the correct learning aids to support them. Additionally, I worked with children in care so boosting their self-esteem, keeping them on track and having fun was key. Finally, I worked one-on-one with a girl with ADHD-combined which was a joy as she was determined and motivated but often off track, motivating her to complete her work and seeing the results from this – a happy and confident girl - were highly rewarding.
