About Me

Hi! I'm Amanda and when I am not teaching, I love walking my dog, swimming, Pilates, Zumba, reading books, watching Marvel films, raising money for charity with my Brownies and attending Wadsley Church, where I volunteer with the Children's Team.

I love teaching 1-2-1 because I can personalise the lesson to meet the needs of the individual. I have spotted many SENDs (ie Dyslexia, ADHD etc) that have been missed at school (always recommending that the parents have their child assessed by an expert). I teach using a variety of methods (games, flashcards, creating a personalised memory book, stickers and LOTS of encouragement!). I have tutored state & private school pupils.

Some children want tuition as they are struggling at school due to poor mental health, falling behind in class, or some want to be challenged further than they are in a class of 30. I can teach phonics to a Reception child and create GCSE revision materials with a Y11 student. The child and their parents set the criteria. Overall, whether Primary, KS3 or GCSE, my aim is always to do my best to create a positive, rewarding and safe environment where the child can do their best and be proud of themselves.

My Experience

I have been running my own Private Tuition Business for 19 years, after spending 8 years teaching year 4 and year 6 children in Carlisle. As well as teaching private Maths and English lessons to children (Reception to GCSE), I have been a volunteer Teaching Assistant at both of my nearest Primary Schools, the Children's Worker at St John's, Owlerton and I am still (after 13 years) the 152nd Oughtibridge Brown Owl!
