About Me
I am an energetic grandmother of 56. My beautiful 21 month old grandson lives in Australia, so flexible working is essential for me, to enable me to visit when the opportunity arises. I have just returned from a 7 week stay. (NB In general my visits are 12-18 months apart, due to the cost of flights and managing responsibilities to support local family.)
Part of my weekly commitments involve supporting aging family members with household management. This means that I am best suited to short term, part time work, fitting around current commitments.
A bit about my background: I qualified as a teacher in the mid 90s but settled in a career as Higher Level Teaching Assistant, since finding early on that anxiety and ADD traits contributed to too high stress as a teacher. I enjoyed my career but have now embraced a more gentle pace of life. I volunteer as Sunday school leader at my local church (DBS holder of course) and clean for two very lovely senior citizens on Mondays. I love cooking, gardening and the outdoors, looking after my father-in-law's garden and try not to neglect my own wild garden space, in which I grow apples, rhubarb, raspberries, strawberries, gooseberries and blackcurrants, plus as many flowers that manage to resist being eaten by the friendly wildlife!
I have a full clean driving licence, but as of recently no longer have use of a private car (my husband and I now only have one car between us, which he needs for daily commute). If driving is a requirement and a car available, I am happy to be added to comprehensive insurance for the duration of the work placement.
My Experience
I have 16 years experience working with children and young adults age 11-18 in both a correctional institution (HMYOI) and more recently at a local secondary school. Much of my experience was with children and young people with additional needs and disabilities. I am trained in teaching literacy skills for adults and children who have dyslexia traits and in working with children and young people on the Autism spectrum. I can also offer foundation English, Maths, French and German tuition. I have experienced anxiety disorder myself, so am especially compassionate towards parents and young ones who face similar challenges. My recent newborn and infant experience comes from helping out when my grandson was born and looking after him (20 months old) for a seven week period (14th Oct - 3rd Dec 24) while his Mummy did supply teaching work, which was such a joy!

BA(HONS) East European Studies with German, PGCE (MFL) and SpLD Diploma (Specific Learning Disability)
My Availability
I am often available to for child car cover daytimes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, however I am not looking for regular work on these days at present, due to other commitments. Currently booked for Wednesdays till first week in February.
