About Me
Hello! My name is Colton Kempf. I live in Margate.
I am originally from Philadelphia, U.S.A. I grew up with five siblings, helping to take care of the youngest two. My dad is one of six siblings, and my mom is one of eight, which means loads of cousins (forty first cousins!). Now, my cousins are having children and are asking me to look after them whenever I'm back in the States.
I graduated from Georgetown University (Washington, DC) in 2015 with a BA in Economics and Spanish. After several years working for clothing and apparel startups in San Francisco, I left to follow a passion for music and teaching.
For two years, I was an assistant English teacher at a public primary school in Madrid, Spain. Afterward, I returned to Philadelphia and worked as an administrator and content producer at a charter school in West Philadelphia.
In August of 2022, I moved to London to pursue an MA in Music and Audiovisual Cultures at Goldsmiths, and recently graduated with distinction. My current practice and research lie at the intersections of music, video and education.
When I am not making my own music or films, I am thinking about how to help young people make theirs. My dream is to start a music and arts school for teenagers.
Beyond my own musical projects, I am currently working remotely as a research assistant in the music department at Goldsmiths and looking for additional work as a nanny and ESOL teacher.
My Experience
I have six years experience caring for children.
Most recently, I looked after a 7-year-old boy for six months in London before moving to Margate.
In the summers, I work at an art camp teaching and mentoring students between the ages of 14-17. Part of my job was creating a welcoming home for the students while ensuring their health, safety, and wellbeing.
While working as an English Language & Culture Assistant in Madrid, I supported seven non-native English teachers in eight grades (with students aged 4-12) at a public bilingual elementary school. I organised language activities; prepared class materials; created lesson plans; led English classes; and oversaw extracurricular activities, such as after-school language games and an English-language cinema club. I also Coordinated with parents of five students (aged 4-10) to give private English lessons in their homes.
My Qualifications
I am DBS certified, and am a certified nanny through other nannying platforms. I have a Bachelor's and Master's degree.
My Availability
I am available for up to 20 hours/week.
