I’m originally from Birmingham and recently graduated with a degree in Psychology and Counselling. Coming from a large family, I’ve always valued the importance of family connections. Over the years, I’ve gained extensive experience caring for babies and young children. Currently, I’m helping my family by babysitting and providing support for my nephew, whom I’ve been looking after since he was just 3 weeks old, due to my cousin's postpartum depression. This experience has inspired me to pursue a career where I can support postpartum mothers and their babies, offering guidance and care during this critical time.
My Experience
I've had the privilege of caring for my nephew since he was just a few weeks old. His mum was recovering from postpartum and needed some extra support not just with the baby, but around the house too so I stepped in and have been helping ever since.
In those early days, I was hands on with everything from feeding and nappy changes to bath time and bedtime routines. I also took on overnight shifts so his mum could get some much needed rest, and I was there as someone she could talk to just to listen and be there for her.
Now that he’s one and his mum is feeling more confident, I still babysit regularly. I help with his meals, dressing, changing, and making sure he’s engaged in play that supports his development. I also pitch in with household tasks, knowing how much a little extra help can mean to a busy mum.
