About Me

I am a 28 year old female, I will turn 29 in March. I live just outside of Filey, and have been driving since I was 17 years old. Had two stable jobs since started working at the age of 14. Spent a year and half as an Au Pair in Virginia, America. I had the best time as an Au Pair, and would of gone back if covid hadn’t happened.

My Experience

During my time at college, we had to do five different work placements. Mine included; Six weeks in the baby room at Filey Childcare. I helped feeding and putting the babies down for naps. Also playing with them using interactive toys. Two weeks on the children’s ward at Scarborough Hospital, where we mostly did arts and crafts activities. Another two week placement which was at Springhead School. There I interacted with the children in the best way for them, whether that was through music, lights, talking or movement. A one
year placement in the reception class at Seamer&Irton Primary School. There I helped out with reading, small group activities/work,
P.E lessons and school trips. My final placement was another one year placement at Hunmanby Primary School in the Year 1 class, I
helped with class performances, guided reading groups, small group work/activities, went on various school trips(some included the Year 2
class also). While I was there as a student the school went through an OFSTED inspection. I was given a Jack and the Beanstalk activity to
do. I was directed by the class teacher what and where to do it. As the inspector came round with the head teacher, they stopped and
observed me as I was doing the activity.
While I was working at Dixons full time, on my days off during the week I volunteered in the Year 2 class at Hunmanby Primary School. I
would set up activities, help with guided reading groups and give the children help as and when needed when doing class work.
During the time I worked at Hunmanby Primary School between 2015 and 2016, I worked 1-1 with a child that had special educational
needs. Also I had my own small phonics group that was low ability and often worked with the low ability maths group. I set up and prepared
all my own phonics work and activities. I also went on many school trips with the class.
As I went on to be an Au Pair, I looked after twin girls that were two years old and a boy that was six years old. There were many times where I was the sole carer for all three children. I was responsible for I was the sole carer for all three children. I was responsible for all child
related jobs for example bathing, cooking, washing, driving to and from places and packing for trips away. I drove the girls to nursery and if
they were off sick or nursery was closed I would look after them for the day. I collected the boy from the bus stop after school and we would do
any school work that he needed to do and then find an activity, we really enjoyed baking or reading together. During the school holidays I
would look after the boy, and we would find activities to pass on our days. He enjoyed crafting, going for bike rides or walks together,
baking/cooking or having quiet time and reading. The parents and I had a great relationship. I had a good relationship with the grandparents
also. They often went on family trips that I would join them on. When I returned back to England and working at Dixons again, I did supply work at Hunmanby throughout the Early Years unit. I did supply in the two year old unit, helping with any activities that they were doing and changing nappies. I did supply in the nursery class, helping with maths groups, any phonic work they were working on and any individual tasks they were doing. I also did supply in reception class
with a child that had complex SEN needs. I would make sure she was safe in the area she was in and helped her with any tasks she had set
for that day. During my time working at Hunmanby School again, I was working in
the two year old unit. I helped with craft activities, learning activities, playing outside in the sand/water trays and riding on the bikes.
While I was working at Hunmanby, I helped cover lunch time duty throughout the school-Reception class to Year 6. I have attended and
participated in many staff meetings whether thats been whole school or just within the team I’m working in. I have offered my ideas for activities within the class and for any tuff trays we have that week. I helped out
covering in the before and after school club if needed. This involved making sure the children had the breakfast/drink if they wanted it and
interacted by playing with Lego, colouring or any other activities that they had out that morning/evening. I helped set up and tidy the room away ready for the next group of people to use it.
