My Summary

My Experience

I have experience working with children in nursery, primary and secondary school, mainstream and SEN. My interest in working with SEN pupils stems from family experience (my cousin has an ASD diagnosis). I studied the overlap between autism and language in detail throughout my degree and started work at an SEN school when I returned to Leeds after graduating. Working with non-verbal pupils aged 4-19 means that I know how to use ALDs, PECs, talkers and other communication devices. I used Makaton every day to aid communication with the children. Being able to communicate with non-verbal pupils or pupils with language delays, disorders or impairments enables me to work with children with a range of needs. I also gained training on safeguarding, TeamTeach, intimate care, communication, epilepsy, asthma and allergies and have an up to date enhanced DBS check which is on the anual update service which equips me to be a nanny/babysitter.

Additionally, my volunteering experience has provided me with experience working with young people, supporting my local community and teaching English as a foreign language (EFL). When teaching EFL in Bali I planned an ran classes for a small group of children. My history has made me into the confident, organised and creative person that I am today.

- A level in English Language (A), Art and Design (A) and Sociology (B)
- 9 GCSEs including English Literature (9), English Language (6), Mathematics (7) and combined science (7-7).
