My Requirements

Looking for a MALE buddy/mentor/support worker for my teenage son. He has high functioning autism and some mental health difficulties who is very loveable and intelligent. Would love to find someone who can help him make sense of his challenges and navigate his way into young adulthood.

He is very independent and does not require any personal care. A buddy who can help motivate him to be active and make good choices would be ideal. He loves gaming, computer, history, scuba diving and sailing/kayaking. I would like someone who will go with him to the gym /swimming and do activities to encourage him to be more active.

He needs time to get to build trust and requires patience when he finds tasks challenging. Someone who has experience with autistic teenagers would be preferred, but SEN knowledge is a must.

He attends school full time, however, is nearing his GCSE exams so will have some study leave. He also has Easter holidays and then finishes school for summer before going to college in September.

Initially a 5 month placement with the possibility of extension depending on post 16 decisions for my son. Please consider your ability to commit to this placement prior to enquiring as I do not want multiple changes of carers. I am looking for a buddy who can be flexible and adaptable. Preferably looking for someone who can do a mixture of days and some overnights (if required on occasion)

Term time:
Friday and Saturday (10am - 8pm) although times are negotiable
One other weekday evening (4.30pm - 9.30pm)
Total minimum: 25 hours

Holidays:
3 full days per week (9am - 9pm) days and times negotiable
Total minimum: 36 hours
