About Me
Hello! My name is Emma. I am a fully qualified primary teacher who stepped out of the classroom after over a decade and is now self-employed as a private tutor. My focus is helping children overcome anxieties around school/learning, grow in confidence and develop a deeper understanding of the topic without pressure, and at their own pace. My personal teaching philosophy is to meet children where they are, discover how they enjoy learning and support them so that they feel more confident in school and proud of each small success. My tutoring business is called Spouting Seeds Tuition because I believe all children grow in their own ways and will reach their goals in their own time. I’m an understanding and compassionate educator who takes the time to develop strong relationships with my students and develop their knowledge and understanding in the best way that suits them.
I can help with all primary school subjects but mostly tutor in English and Maths. I work with children who have anxiety around attending school- keeping them up to date with the general school curriculum, children with dyslexia who need support with reading, spelling and writing and autistic children who need different approaches to learning and a patient and understanding tutor.
I work closely with the children to find the best arrangements for them and allow them to take control of their learning in a safe and supportive space.
My Experience
I have over 10 years’ experience as a primary school teacher working in Scotland and Thailand. I currently work as a private tutor and have been doing this for the past year. Before returning to Scotland, I taught local Thai children in the English Programme, covering all primary subjects. I have worked in diverse classrooms delivering the Curriculum for Excellence across all stages for children with differing abilities and support needs.
In my role as a tutor, I have realised the impact I can have on individual learners. The direct focus and lack of distractions found in the classroom allow for deeper understanding and quicker progress. Both roles have been fulfilling in their own way, but I am enjoying the flexibility tutoring offers and the freedom to make lessons as child-led as possible.
My Qualifications
I have a BEd (Hons) degree in Primary Education as well as a certificate in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) from my time teaching in Thailand. I have also completed courses in the Introduction to Adverse Childhood Experiences, Introduction to Dyslexia and Inclusive Practice and Autism Awareness in Education.
My Availability
I am available for one-to-one tutoring as well as small group tutoring (up to four children). I currently have open availability on Thursdays and Fridays and will be opening more slots on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays after the school summer holidays. My morning and early afternoon hours are ideal for younger children, home educated children or children who are unable to attend school for various reasons.
I tutor from my home (based in Clarkston, East Renfrewshire) and also offer online sessions if you prefer a virtual set-up.

My Fees
- Tutoring from £35.00 per hour
I charge £35 per hour for one-to-one tutoring sessions. This includes all resources, materials, assessments and feedback. Prices are reduced for groups, depending on group size.
