My Summary
About Me
I am a fun and enthusiastic person who has a sensitive, kind and professional outlook when working with families. I consider myself to have good communication skills and am happy to use my initiative to help make things run smoothly.
I am an experienced Norland Nanny, maternity nurse and midwife with over 30 years experience looking after children from birth to 8 years. I have lots of practical and medical knowledge supporting new mums and helping them care and establish routines for their newborn babies.
For 15 years I worked as a midwifery sister both in the community and hospital setting. Before taking a break from midwifery, I was a Night Sister on the postnatal and antenatal wards. I really enjoyed this as I was able to give more time to mums, helping and supporting them with the challenges of feeding and settling their babies at night.
All of my experiences have helped me understand that every family is different with different needs and lifestyles. Therefore I feel it is important to develop a unique routine for each new parent and their baby. Not only being flexible, I also feel an important part of my role is to be quietly organised.
I am of course happy to do all nursery duties for the baby and care for the mother also. As a maternity nurse, I would not want to be fully responsible for other children in the house but would always engage them in the care and activities of their new sibling.
I am happy to follow both a strict routine or try a more organic approach. I will always involve the parents with the baby’s care to work together to achieve the best routine for them.
I also am a sleeptrainer consultant. My role then is to guide parents in helping their child learn to fall asleep without assisstance. I use a gentle tailored method, never leaving a baby or child to ‘cry it out’.
I am able to give professional advice on breast feeding, formula feeding, sleep and routine, colic, reflux and also special care for premature babies or those recovering from surgery.
I am also happy to cook and run errands for the mother to aid her time to rest and bond with her newborn at this special time.
My aim as a maternity nurse is to provide the family with a stress-free time after the birth of their baby, with a sense of security that all their baby’s needs are being met. I am there to care, support, teach and reassure them in these testing weeks and to have the baby in a set routine that the parents feel happy and confident to continue after I leave.
