My Summary
About Me
Hello! I am currently a SENCo and member of the Senior Leadership Team of a large mainstream school in central Cambridge. I have 2 primary school aged daughters.
I have been teaching for 19 years and have secured a wealth of experience across all age ranges up to 14 years old at both Mainstream and Independently funded schools.
I am fun but firm and most of all a happy person. I attended an Independent school from the age of 5 to 16 and was tutored as a child. I can vividly remember how daunting it was however I now have a great career and confidence in my abilities because of that tutor!
I offer a very positive approach to learning and many modern and traditional methods of teaching.
My Experience
I have been tutoring for 9 years, mainly English, Maths and 11+ entrance exams to Independent Schools across the country. I also offer online Skype sessions to students abroad.
In my view, the most important aspect of tutoring is that the child feels safe, confident and has some ownership of their progress. It is vital that they know what their next steps are and I encourage them to set themselves personal goals, whatever their age.
The parents must also be fully involved in their child's progress and keep the class teacher up to date with any progress they have made with me. All adults within the child's learning should be communicating at some level and I am happy to write letters or notes to the class teacher on the child's behalf explaining what the sessions with myself will entail and also asking for their advice on what I can do to help them with their educational journey to maintain some consistency.
I endeavour to continue with the context your child is focusing on at school and also help them with their homework, should this be required.
Children learn and retain information in different ways and through my many years of experience I have a bank of techniques to access their working memory.
