About Me
Hello, my name is Katherine Brennan. I live in the Fleetville / Camp area of St. Albans.
My background is in nursing having qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1993. As well as experience in working in a busy general medical hospital ward I have also worked in the areas of elderly care and, latterly, with adults with severe learning disabilities.
In July 2009 I became an OFSTED registered childminder. I have a warm and welcoming home well equipped with toys, games, books, craft materials and a good sized garden with a range of large and small outdoor equipment. I have a good basic knowledge of Makaton Sign Language. I have completed Diploma in Children and Young People Workforce (completion date, July 2013)
I am committed to providing an inclusive practice where all children are equally valued in an environment where they can learn through well planned (as well as spontaneous!) play.
My Experience
I have been childminding for almost fifteen years as well as raising my own children before that for an additional 14 years. Whilst childminding I have looked after children ranging in age from 7 months to 10 years old (and counting!) One of the aspects of childminding I love is meeting the needs of children of several age groups at any one time.
I work to the Government's Early Years Foundation Stage framework, striving to keep parents involved and well informed of their child's progress and development. I am proud of the rapport I have with the parents I work with.
I have three children of my own. My eldest daughter lives at home and works with local electoral services. My second daughter is living, and working in London in design and marketing. My youngest daughter also lives with me and is about to enter A levels at Beaumont School.
We are an animal loving household - we have a cat and two small dogs who are all very accustomed to being around children.
Working as a nurse for over 20 years has given me much experience in remaining calm in a crisis. I have worked with people from all kinds of backgrounds and with all levels of abilities and this has given me the appreciation that everyone has something to offer.
My Qualifications
I have successfully completed the required 'Childminder Passport Training' including training on;
Safeguarding Children
Diploma in Home-based Childcare Unit 1
Introduction to Early Years Foundation Stage
Paediatric First Aid
I have also undergone training in the following areas:

Integrated Practice
Level 1 and level 2 Makaton signing
Every Child A Talker
I have also attended training on 'Assessment for Planning' & further training in Food Hygiene and Safeguarding.
I have completed the Diploma in Children and Young People Workforce.
I am committed to keeping my practice up-to-date and will assess my learning requirements and seek training where need is identified.
My Availability
Availability from September 2024 = 07.00 - 18.00 Monday - Friday
Weekends; not normally available but may occasionally be able to accommodate. Strictly by prior agreement only.
