About Me
Hello, I'm Lesley and I live in Nelson with my husband of 30 years and our grown-up daughter. I have been a childminder for 32 years.
I provide home-based care for children up to the age of five.
I am passionate about child development I want my setting to be an , adventurous place yet a safe haven for learning; a place that makes every day anything but ordinary. Learning is child-led, but I do endeavour to enhance their play to teach specific skills and concepts.
I strive to give children a wide experience of life while in my care with trips into the community, (library, shops, garden centre etc.)
I find out at what stage a child is at when they begin their time in my setting using conversations with parents, 'all about me' books and observations and I continue to reevaluate and reassess each child's development as they grow older.
I have a book corner, small world area, mark making area and number discovery area. As well as provision for role play, messy play, and other activities.
I have a secure backyard and children have daily access to outdoor play. I also live a short walk away from our local play park which we visit regularly.
I attend toddler groups to encourage social skills as well as regular trips to other places such as farm attractions. I believe that if a child is happy and busy, they are learning. My job is to keep a child happy and busy, discerning when they simply need to take time out to be quiet and to rest and to observe and record what they are learning.
My Experience
I am a qualified nursery nurse (NNEB) Before I became a childminder I was a nursery nurse working in two different local infant schools.
I have kept up my training by attending courses, doing E-courses and reading relevant articles and books. I am a fully qualified paediatric first aider and hold certificates in Safe guarding- including British Values and Prevent Strategy and in Food Hygiene.
Over the years, I have cared for children from tiny babies up to age 11. Some with special needs. I have cared for children from different cultures and I can cater for most cultural needs.
My Qualifications
I am an nneb qualified nursery nurse and I also have more recently gained the nvq level 3 certificate in childcare.
I have completed training in safeguarding children (level2), paediatric first aid and food hygiene.
I have completed various training on preschool literacy, numeracy, science and messy play as well as other aspects of child development.

5 star plus!! *******
Lesley currently looks after my little girl and has been amazing for her development, Amelia looks forward to going and Lesley has helped her grow in a beautiful little girl, she’s always there to listen to your concerns and always give you advice if needed.
I’m so glad I plucked up the courage to call Lesley and finally take Amelia to see her because the friendship they have now is amazing.
Every time I go there are different activities going on and Amelia is always happy go lucky :-)
Couldn’t recommend this lady enough to look after your children :-)
