My Summary
Childminder
About Me
Hi my name is Helen Seymour and I’m an Ofsted Registered Childminder.
I was last inspected with a good rating in January 2024.
I have been childminding over 20 years.
I live in Lee, a 10 min walk from Lee Station and 2 mins from Colfes Senior School entrance.
I am married with one son who is 26 and lives away from home.
I have a small child friendly yorkiepoo dog ‘Ozzy’ (13yrs)
My aim as a childminder is to meet a series of outcomes that are set out as standard alongside the EYFS criteria. I do this by providing a warm safe and friendly envirnoment, through play toys, books, creative play and going out into the community to the park, library and toddler groups.
I have a playroom exclusively for the children and a great outdoor space for the children as well.
I am also a great believer in working together with parents, these are important factors to help children achieve and fulfil their full potential.
We are a non-smoking family and deem ourself to be reasonably fit and healthy.
You can contact me to arrange a chat, visit or request a copy of my prospectus.
I can also send photos of my setting via WhatsApp if you provide me with your telephone number.
My Experience

I have also done some emergency care when a parent has moved or has gone on a course or had some where to go.

Helen has been simply wonderful and I could not recommend her enough. We could not have wished for a better childminder, now family friend, to care for our children. She is a real superstar!
Both our daughters have been cared for by Helen, our eldest from 7 months to 3 years and our youngest who is 18 months has been with Helen from 7 months and is still there today.
I had a real nightmare getting both girls to take the bottle when babies. It was a real worry initially dropping off our eldest, when she was so tiny, not knowing how Helen would feed her, but this lady is a magician. Not only was she taking the bottle on day 1, she always seemed to eat far more with Helen than I could manage at home. It has been a similar story with my second child, but without the worry from me.
Helen's second super power, sleep! I've always found it so hard to get my girls to nap for long stretches. It is not uncommon for my girls to nap for 2+ hours in the middle of the day at Helens, and when younger, she always managed to get them into the routine of 3 naps a day. The tips and advice around sleep have been priceless.
Both girls have absolutely thrived with Helen. The range of activities Helen has to offer has been amazing. From the weekly playgroup sessions, to the incredible toys in the garden. I love that they are able to explore the outside safely and I've seen this has played a huge part in their physical development too.
In summary, if like me, you don’t have family close by that can offer support but you want a setting that will provide a home from home loving environment for your children, you simple can't go wrong with Helen. I trust Helen and her family explicitly and consider them all close friends.
Thank you Helen.
What can I say about the wonderful Helen?
When I went back to work, my little girl was a year old and very clingy - she’d cry when anyone who wasn’t me held her. I met so many childminders and didn’t feel they were the right fit until I met Helen. The moment she welcomed me into her beautiful home, I felt sure it was the right place for us and Leila proved it by smiling and giggling when Helen held her for the first time.
In total, Helen looked after Leila for two years - through a global pandemic, potty training and a new sibling. Leila blossomed in her setting. Thanks to Helen and her lovely family, Leila is a happy, sociable, confident preschooler now with excellent manners. I credit Helen and her endless patience for this.
Helen is a warm, friendly, wonderful person who has a magical touch with children. They gravitate to her and she makes them feel truly special. She is flexible, responsive and cares so deeply for the kids in her setting. She’s also endlessly creative and spends much of her own time setting up for new activities. Leila would come home every day with arts and crafts bursting to tell us what she had learned at Helen’s house! She planted flowers, learned about new animals and insects, discovered different cultures and celebrations, made firm friends and gained so much independence. Every day, we dropped Leila off at Helen’s knowing she’d be loved and cared for. Helen even coped wonderfully with Leila’s very picky eating, trying new dishes with her until she found some Leila would eat - in fact, Leila ate better at Helen’s house than she does at home! We feel very lucky to have found her.
I would recommend Helen’s setting to anyone looking for a home-from-home environment for their children. She is incredibly reliable and has never taken a day off sick. I can’t speak highly enough of her and the care she provides.
When I returned to work my little girl was 6 months old. Helen made the transition a million times easier as my daughter settled straight away.
Freya is now nearly 2 and adores going to Helen's. I know each day the only problem I'll face is collecting her as she always wants to stay.
Helen is exceptionally kind to Freya and makes her feel secure and happy. She engages her in a wide range of creative and fun activities (including trips to the park or farm). Freya also makes good progress at Helen's with physical, social and verbal development.
Sadly we are moving away in the summer. I know Freya will miss Helen and the other children she cares for. We would be exceptionally lucky if we found as good a childminder when we move.
