About Me
My name is Janet Drake. I am a registered childminder with over 30 years experience. I offer a professional, reliable and caring childcare environment for children from birth onwards. I live in a quiet culdesac in Lowfields area of Ingleby Barwick, with a short walk to Whinstone Primary School, bus service and shops. I provide all day care for babies and toddlers and nursery wrap around care for Whinstone Primary. I also drop off and pick up from Whinstone Primary School for school aged children.
My setting includes a spacious purpose built playroom which is equipped to meet childrens needs and play opportunities. I have a large secure garden which is accessible all year round with a wide variety of toys and play equipment to enhance learning and development.
I follow the EYFS framework covering 7 areas of learning and work with parents and carers to support each childs individual needs.
The children in my care develop self confidence, independence and good social skills showing readiness for the next stage in their learning and eventual move to school.
My Experience
I have vast experience of working with children of all ages and stages of development, including children with special needs and requirements.
I work closely with parents/carers to provide the best outcome for their children.
I regularly attend professional development courses to improve my setting and development.
I offer a wide variety of activities including painting, baking, visits to local attractions and parks, dressing up, music time, numeracy and literacy.

My Availability
My care is available from 7:30am until 5:30pm, Monday to Friday with extended hours available on request. I take and pick up children from Whinstone Primary - nursery and school. I provide all day care for pre-school children. Overnight care is available upon request.
Free childcare entitlement for 2 and 3 year olds is available.

i Honestly cannot recommend Jan enough! If you want a safe, loving and happy environment for your child then Jan is definitely the person to go with!
Our daughter has learned so much from going to Jans and genuinely gets excited when we drop her off as she loves going so much.
Jan is so caring and thoughtful with every activity she does and our daughter loves to get involved and try all of the new and exciting activities that jan has planned for the day.
I’m currently expecting another baby and will definitely be sending this baby to jans as she really is the best of the best! I’m so glad I found her and my daughter absolutely adores her. I am So grateful and thankful to Jan for the 5* care she gives our daughter.

Jan has been an absolute blessing for our daughter and for us as parents. From day one, she created such a nurturing, safe, and happy environment that our daughter settled in quickly and genuinely looks forward to going each day.
Jan is incredibly kind, patient, and attentive. She puts so much thought and care into everything she does—from fun, educational activities to encouraging positive behaviour and building confidence. It’s clear she really loves what she does, and that shines through in the way she connects with the children.
We’ve seen our daughter grow in so many ways thanks to Jan’s support and guidance, and we feel completely at ease knowing she’s in such good hands. We’re so grateful to have found her and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to any parent looking for a fantastic childminder!

We couldn't be happier with the care our child receives from Janet, From the very first day, she made us feel confident and at ease with her warm, nurturing approach. She goes above and beyond to create a fun and engaging environment for our child, and it’s clear that she truly cares about their well-being. The activities she plans are always creative and educational, and our child always comes home with a big smile and stories of their adventures.

We have been sending our little boy to Jan since September 2023. This is the first time we’ve ever put our son in any form of childcare and Jan made it super easy. She showed us every qualification and certification she had and is more than qualified to look after anyone’s child.
Our son was a little reluctant at first, but she always reassured us that he was fine and having a great time. Our little boy always has the best time with Jan and she really encourages the kids to be themselves.
Jan’s home is spotless and has a full room dedicated to the children. Lots of resources and fun things to do and lots of toys which always goes down a treat. We would recommend Jan to anybody looking for that warm personal approach to childcare.

Our son has been with Janet since September when he was 9 months old. I was a little nervous putting him into childcare when he was so young but Janet has been amazing! He has the best time when he is there and we love reading what he has been doing in his diary each night. Spending time with Janet and the other children has encouraged him to come out of his shell and our once clingy little boy is now so social! Can’t thank Janet enough for everything she has done.

We started looking for a childminder because our little boy didn’t settle well in nursery. It was such a worrying time for us as both my husband and I needed to go to work. From day 1 with Jan our little boy has gone into Jan’s house happily without so much as a backward glance. Jan is friendly and professional. Our little boy has loved making friends with the small group of children who attend the same days he does and is always excited to tell me about the lovely things he has been doing. Jan provides a little book which she writes in daily to let me know any important messages and what our little boy has been doing that day. Our little boy has loved going to Jan so much that when I started maternity leave and there was no need for him to go he insisted he wanted to.
I honestly didn’t believe I’d find anyone I would feel comfortable leaving my little boy with. I admit that I’m very fussy and don’t let anyone look after him other than my own mother and his dad. Jan has made us all feel comfortable from the very beginning though and keeps us well informed of what my little boy has been doing. It has meant the world to us that he has been so happy with Jan during the last year and a half. I would happily recommend Jan to anyone looking for high quality childcare.

Our 3 year old daughter has been going to Jans since she was 6 months old. Since day 1 Jan has been incredible. Leaving daily notes to tell us what our daughter has been up to each day. Jan provides a safe, fun and educational environment and our daughter loves going. Can’t thank Jan enough.

Jan put me at ease from my very first visit. She is reliable, caring and is so much more than just a child minder.
I receive a diary at the end of each day with a breakdown what they have done. Her house and gardens are immaculate and my little boy & girl adores to be there playing.
I would recommend Jan in a heartbeat to anyone needing a childminder

Our son went to Jan following a bad experience with a previous childminder. This made it even harder to leave him but Jan was amazing.
He’s come on so much and he loves going to play with his friends. He was like a different child once he went to Jan and I would recommend her to everyone.
I can’t thank Jan enough for her help with our little boy and for making it possible for us to go work with worrying.

Jan answered our prayers when our nanny moved out of the area. She is just one of the most caring people that you could ever have the pleasure of meeting. My little boy started when he was 2. Jan gives far more than an average childminder. She genuinely cares for all of the children she looks after (and the parents!). She doesn't just 'child-mind', but teaches the children using the FS profile. My little boy loves going to Jan's house and has come on in leaps and bounds. She encourages confidence, co-operation and good behaviour. I honestly feel so lucky that she had space when we were looking for a childminder. We couldn't imagine anyone as qualified and caring as her to look after our precious little boy.
