Welcome to The Nurture Nest, a warm, secure, and homely childminding setting with over 30 years of educational experience. As an Outstanding registered Childminder based in Slip End, near Harpenden, I am proud to offer a nurturing environment where children thrive. With amazing references and a dedicated team, including my two fantastic assistants, Bo and Alfie, both fully DBS-checked, trained, and first aid certified, your child’s safety and happiness are always our top priority.
Our setting is spacious and well-equipped, featuring a fantastic playroom and a beautiful rear garden with a mud kitchen, climbing area, and a nature/sensory garden, offering endless opportunities for exploration and learning. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, ensuring that your child engages in a wide range of stimulating activities while enjoying a home-from-home experience.
I have extensive experience in childcare, with 32 years in the field, including 15 years as a nanny, and roles as a mothers' help and a Nursery Nurse at Roundwood Primary School. I have been childminding for 11 years and am fully trained with a variety of early years qualifications.
At The Nurture Nest, we believe in the power of strong communication. We work closely with parents, offering regular updates through WhatsApp Daily Diaries and the BabysDays App, ensuring you are always in the loop about your child's progress and activities.
Each day at The Nurture Nest is filled with exciting opportunities for learning and fun. From toddler groups to visits to Woodside Animal Farm, the park, and the library, we provide a well-rounded and dynamic experience. Messy play, baking, outdoor adventures, and music sessions are just some of the activities children enjoy. We also prioritise healthy, home-cooked meals and snacks, made with love and care.
Children adore coming to The Nurture Nest, and many ask to return every day! We are home to baby chicks, Guinea pigs, and a friendly cat, creating a truly special environment for your child to grow and learn.

Catherine provides the best childcare. Our daughter was welcomed into the setting, given time to settle in. Catherine planned each day full of activities for creative learning and exploring . Our daughter looked forward to going each day, lots of experiences for her to enjoy. Catherine kept us updated on her development through tapestry also with lots of pictures and videos uploaded so we could see the fun our daughter had.
Catherine also made extra efforts to learn sign language and incorporated this into her daily routine with our daughter to support her development as our daughter is deaf. Catherine also made extra effort to incorporate different ways to communicate through play,signs,songs.
Our daughter thrived and grew in experience and confidence.
Catherine is diligent, professional, very experienced with children and most of all caring, with a welcoming family and environment.

Thanks Catherine for taking my little one in at the last minute when I was desperately seeking child care for my daughter. She was only 9 months when she came to you and was only used to mummy.
You made her feel very welcome and she warmed to your family quite quickly. She was kept busy with days out and classes and a variety of activities at home. You always made sure she was healthy, happy and active!
I will always be grateful for the wonderful care you provided and your flexibility.
