My Summary
About Me
*vacancy from September 2014*
I work alongside Lynda Johnston who is also a registered childminder.
We are Ofsted registered childminders and are members of the Professional Association for Children and Early Years. We both hold an enhanced CRB Check and have a Paediatric First Aid certificate which is renewed every 3 years.
We recognise that choosing childcare isn't an easy decision to make, and understand that the transition can be a distressing time for the parent/s aswell as the child. We would like to assure parents that all children in our care have our complete dedication and that their much loved child will be kept safe and well provided for whist in our care.
Our childminding business is close to Scargill primary school where we are happy to drop off and collect children. We are also happy to drop off and collect children from the Village Preschool and the Community Preschool.
We provide quality care for children aged 0 - 12 years providing a warm, welcome and safe environment. A large rear extension with access to a bathroom and outdoor play area provides adequate space to care for up to 12 children at a time. We offer a wide range of activities for all age groups to help children learn and develop in all areas including a book corner, home corner, dressing up area, creative area, paint/chalk easel, tent, cars and garage, TV, bricks, building blocks, animals, musical instruments, dolls, jigsaws, ICT toys and many more. We have a paddling pool, sand/water tray, ball pit, slide, see-saw, a farm house and much more outdoors.
We also have a sensory room which includes a bubble fish lamp, a rotating disco ball, an optic fibre lamp and a variety of sensory toys such as a treasure basket, a black out tent, scented and textured balls and many more interesting toys and objects for children to explore using all of their senses. Combined with dimmed lights and relaxation music we feel this is a nice calming environment for the children and is also be a brilliant space for any child who poses special educational needs.
All children under 5 years old are provided with a learning journey file in which their development is tracked in-line with the EYFS through planning, observing, evaluating and creating next steps. This file includes the child’s all about me sheets, planned and spontaneous observations, the development matters guidance, relevant summary checks, photographs and samples of their work. These files are given to the child when they leave the setting.
Parents are given a daily diary each day to inform them of what their child has done that day and to share information regarding toileting, sleep and meals. Parents are encouraged and welcomed liasse with us through this book. We welcome parents to call us at any time.
We are happy to provide breakfast, snacks, a cooked lunch and light tea if required. A typical menu can be viewed on request.
My Experience
Until May 2010 I worked at a nursery in Derby, where I was responsible for the care and well being of children, helping them to build an identity, as well as helping them to grow physically, emotionally and socially.
I was involved in planning, organising and delivering stimulating activities through play, creativity and imagination. This implemented The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) - a framework which sets the standards for learning, development and care of children from birth to 5, which I am expected to follow as a childminder.
Additionally I have experience of children who pose challenging and autistic-like behaviour, therefore requiring additional resources and support.
I now also have my own daughter who is 14 months.
My Qualifications
I have completed A levels and a degree in Psychology and Counselling, completing child-based modules such as developmental psychology, attachment, autism and children's language disorders. I have also learnt about mental health disorders and challenging behaviour.
I have received training in safeguarding, outdoor learning, additional needs, child development, working with 2 year olds and risk assessments. I am also in the process of completing a Level 3 Diploma for the children and young peoples workforce.
I aim to continue extending my knowledge by attending the wide range of courses provided to me as a childminder.
