My Summary
Butterfly Childcare,Hygge Approach, Nature Inspired, Childcare Service In Brize Norton Village, Oxon
About Me
Hello, My name is Kellie Oakes and I provide a Hygge approach, nature-inspired Childcare service from my home in Brize Norton Village.
My family consists of my Daughter, who's 14 years old, and my other half, along with our two cats, Jack & Luna.
My aim is to create a nurturing and comfortable environment for children to learn, grow and play in. I believe that children thrive when they are given the opportunity to explore nature and be inspired by their surroundings. My Hygge approach is based on the Danish concept of creating a warm and cosy atmosphere, which helps children feel calm and relaxed.
With over 10 years of experience in childcare, I have developed a deep understanding of what children need to feel safe, happy and engaged. My home is a welcoming and friendly space where children can feel like they belong. I provide a range of activities that are designed to encourage learning and development, while also being fun and enjoyable.
Nature Inspired Childcare for Little Explorers
In recent years, there has been a rise in the popularity of childcare inspired by nature, and with good reason too!
This approach to childcare focuses on getting children outside and connected with the natural world around them. It is based on the belief that spending time in nature has numerous benefits for young children, including improved physical health, increased creativity and imagination, using natural resources around them to be anything their imagination wants it to be, a stick for example, isn’t just a stick, but rather a magic wand, or an aeroplane, flying through the sky.
Children have the opportunity to explore the natural world through a variety of activities, including hiking, gardening, learning to grow crops on our very own allotment, and nature-based crafts. They are encouraged to use their senses to observe and interact with the world around them, fostering a deeper appreciation and understanding of nature.
Overall, childcare inspired by nature offers a unique and valuable approach to early childhood education. It encourages children to explore, learn, and grow in a natural and nurturing environment, setting them on a path towards a lifetime of appreciation for the natural world.
How does a childminder differ from a Nursery?
Childminders, like nursery settings and schools, are required to be regulated by a governing body, in my case, I'm regulated by Ofsted.
The role of a childminder is an important one, as we are responsible for the care and well-being of young children. Childminders provide a safe and nurturing environment for children to learn, play, and grow; as a childminder, I'm required to have a deep understanding of child development and be able to provide age-appropriate activities and experiences that promote learning and development.
In addition to providing care for children, I can also help with supporting parents and families. I may be able to offer advice and guidance on a range of issues, such as child development, behaviour management, and nutrition.
As a childminder, although working from home, rather than a bigger setting like a nursery, I also follow a set development framework known as The Early Years Foundation Stage
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a framework that sets standards for the learning, development, and care of children from birth to five years old. It emphasises the importance of creating a safe and nurturing environment for children to learn and grow in.
What is my approach to Childcare and teaching?
A combination of a HYGGE and Nature inspired approach, entwined with the EYFS
By incorporating elements of Hygge into early childhood education, educators can create a warm and welcoming environment that promotes emotional well-being and creativity.
For example, using soft lighting, comfortable seating, and natural materials can help create a calming atmosphere that encourages children to feel relaxed and open to learning. Additionally, incorporating activities such as storytelling, nature walks, and art projects can foster creativity and imagination, while also promoting social and emotional development.
Overall, by entwining the Early Years Foundation Stage with Hygge principles, educators can create a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that sets children on a path towards lifelong learning and well-being.
Getting to Know You...
Picking a childminder can be a daunting task. As a parent, I understand your concern for finding the right person. When we first meet we will talk in great detail about what you expect, and take time to discuss how your current routine and activities can be integrated into mine. I am always happy for suggestions - I would be happy to take your child to their favourite toddler group he or she currently goes to for example, if possible. Then it will be time for you and your child to get to know our family and my home. You will have a few 'settling in sessions', joining me and the other children at our home, where you can stay with your child until they are confident enough for you to leave. I also like to work with a four-week settling-in period, during which either of us can opt-out if we are not happy with the way things are working out.
If you are looking for a childcare service that is warm, nurturing and nature-inspired, then please get in touch, I would love to talk to you about how I can help your child thrive.
My Experience
As a childminder for over 10 years, I have had the wonderful opportunity to work with and care for many children of all ages. It has been a truly rewarding experience to help shape and guide these young minds as they grow and learn.
One of the things I have learned is that every child is unique and has their own special talents and interests. It is important to get to know each child individually and tailor activities and experiences to their specific needs and preferences.
Another important aspect of being a childminder is building strong relationships with the children and their families. Communication and trust are key to creating a safe and nurturing environment where children can thrive.
Overall, my experience as a childminder has been incredibly fulfilling and has taught me so much about the joys and challenges of working with children. I feel grateful for the opportunity to have made a positive impact on the lives of these young ones and their families and I am excited about continuing my development to grow as an educator in the coming years.

Kellie was brilliant looking after our baby for the day during a wedding. He was in the midst of a sleep regression and it was his first time away from myself or his dad, but she did a brilliant job settling him down. My boy also has a medical condition and she gave him all his medication as needed.
Would definitely recommend her. Thank you Kellie!

Kellie and Matt have been looking after my son for almost two years now. It’s a lovely home from home setting with plenty of activities, and mixed children of different ages. Archer attends once a week however he spends the rest of the week telling me fun stories about friends he has made and memories he has formed from his time spent there.
He has had the opportunity to visit a vast amount of lovely places such as Blenheim, cogges and the wildlife park, all of which he loves.
Archer has come on leaps and bounds since he started at Butterfly Childcare and we will be sad to be leaving soon when he starts pre school.
We couldn’t recommend them enough!

Kellie and Matt couldn't have been more kind and welcoming. My son is a very happy giggly little boy and half of that is down to these lovley people doing such an amazing job being child minders. I always look forward to finding out that they have all been up 2 in the day. Going to parks, farms or even staying in dancing, singing. Whatever they get up to they make the most of the day having fun. I would highly recommend Kellie, it's like home from home environment and I couldn't be happier with the care they provide😊

My girls have been with Kellie an Matt since March and I was very nervous about moving from Scotland and finding a childminder that I could rely and trust.
I found Kellie by word of mouth and knowing she was very well sought after I messaged in the hope of getting a space, and I am so glad I did.
Both girls settled very quickly, the youngest being just under one and the elder 3yrs old.
McKenzie often comes home
Smiling and babbling about what she done that day from days out to baking and painting.
I’m sad to say that Kenzie moving into primary school will mean she’s no longer in Kellie’s care but Elise will stay and continue to enjoy her time with Kellie and Matt.

Going back to work after maternity leave was made an easier experience thanks to Kellie and Matt; I knew James was safe and happy.
James is a confident, socialised little boy and I believe alot of that is to do with the experiences Kellie and Matt provide for him; he goes to the farm, wildlife park, crocodile world to name a few!
The food provided for James is high quality, balanced and varied. I would happy recommend them to my family and friends without hesitation.
