About Me
Hi, my name is Julie Harris. I am an experienced childminder who is OFSTED registered. I was first registered with OFSTED in 2006 meaning I have over 17 years experience in caring for many children, ranging from New-born babies to 16+ year olds.
In 2016 I relocated from Lanchester to Consett with my husband James who is employed by Northumbria Police. We have three daughters and son who are 11, 19, 25 and 27 years old.
Having spent 10 years building up my successful childminding business in Lanchester we decided to relocate to Consett. This has been a massive decision for both myself and my family but one which we feel will be worth the effort. I have been lucky enough to have worked with some absolutely fantastic families & children in Lanchester over the years & hope I'll gain the same joy in Consett.
Our new home is located two minutes walk from Consett town centre & consists of two large living areas, one of which will be used specifically for childcare. We are located a few seconds walk from Consett's fantastic main park. Childminding from this location gives me an amazing opportunity to make the most of this great facility - when weather suits of course.
Children in my care also have full access to the ground floor of the house and of course the bathroom facilities. I actively encourage the children to make full use of the facilities I have to offer. These include drawing and painting utensils, a library full of children’s books, a large range of toys and games to suit all ages, two different computer systems, masses of children’s DVD’s and supervised access to Netflix cartoons, films and educational programmes.
I always try to keep the children in my care fully occupied. I encourage them to play outdoors as much as possible, especially in the summer, and often take the children to our local park straight from school to play on the equipment there or to have a kick around with a football, run around in the woods or even a picnic.
I try to provide as much variation as possible when it comes to keeping the children entertained and educated both mentally and physically. Apart from everything listed above I often bake with the children, read books with them and even take them on day trips to places such as The Discovery Museum in Newcastle, local soft plays, play groups, the library, Gibside and Chopwell Woods, to name but a few. Although I am clearly not a teacher I do believe that the children need to experience a wide range of activities in order to help them learn and keep their minds active and stimulated from a young age.
I encourage the children in my care to celebrate special global occasions such as Chinese New Year, the Olympics, World Cup, St Georges Day, Easter, Christmas Etc. We use the art and craft materials to do projects on these special occasions and display the children's final product on the wall for all parents to view.
I also try to promote health and safety as much as possible. For example, children are made wear high visibility vests when walking home from school on the darker evenings and to hold hands in order to keep everyone together when crossing roads, and most of all, safe! I also carry our regular Health and Safety Checks in and around my home as well as Fire Drills which all children take part in.
My husband James is obviously fully CRB/DBS checked through OFSTED & through his own employment. Although James is already first aid and trauma trained through his work he has also completed his peadriatric first aid course as this is fully recognised by OFSTED.
I have a recent OFSTED report which is available to view. I also have a hard copy which can be viewed in person upon request.

My Experience
I have over 17 years experience as an OFSTED registered childminder. I am also a mother of 4 so have masses of experience in caring for children of all ages.
My Qualifications
EYSF training.
First Aid Trained.
Full UK Driving Licence (insured for business use).
I have two cars - both of which are fully maintained and insured for business use.
My Availability
7:30am – 6pm weekdays (However, I can be flexible with prior agreement).
1 - I’m available for school drop offs and pick ups in the Consett and Lanchester area.
2 - I am available to work school holidays, **with prior notice**.
3 - I am available to work Bank Holidays, **with prior notice**.
4 - I can usually provide emergency childcare if needed and am readily available a lot of the time to do early pick-ups if children are unwell at school and parents are unavailable.

My Fees
- Childminding from £5.00 per hour
I usually charge £5.00 per hour per child.
• Discounts are available for siblings, depending on hours needed. (Contact me for further details).
I am registered with the local government to accept the 30 free hour's childcare.

Julie has been so welcoming and opened up her home and arms to our son who was a little anxious to be away from me for the first time.
Julie sends regular updates throughout the day my son attends and pictures are included which is really lovely to see.
My son loves going to ‘Julie’s house’ and although he’s only been attending for a matter of weeks, he has really warmed to Julie and gets so excited when she’s mentioned. We love the fact Julie spends so much time outside and allows the kids the explore and use their imaginations. Our son is very outdoorsy so he suits this setting well. Julie’s very flexible, approachable and organised.
My son is a very confident little boy and it’s really nice to see him warming to others and his surroundings.
My son attends one day a week and we can’t wait for some more availability to come up so he can spend more time with a Julie and his friends.

Where to start....we were worried about who would help us with our boy, as he's such a bubbly and lively character, not to mention our pride and joy.
We've seen a few childcare settings and instantly knew they weren't good enough for our own personal standards. However, we met Julie one evening and as soon as she opened the door, we felt safe and could feel the love, warmth and care of a mother ooze out of her home straight away.
Over the past year, our son's development has been amazing, and Julie is a big part of this. She has taken the time to learn how to get the best out of our crazy little man. If we have any worries Julie is easy to speak to and is always understanding and keeps us updated with how our little man is. We have also found it incredibly helpful and reassuring that if we're teaching our son something (putting shoes on etc), Julie will help maintain this too.
The time, effort and focus she puts into each child is amazing. The varied enrichment activities Julie does with the children has helped our son's development and confidence. We receive daily pictures of the activities, trips out and even videos at story time.
We feel completely confident when our son is in Julie's care and think ourselves to be lucky to have found her - picking Julie as our childminder is truly one of the best things we have done.

Julie is an amazing childminder. The whole process from start to finish has been a fabulous experience for me as well as the boys. She has been Very professional, extremely welcoming and helpful throughout the whole time my two boys have been there. I have a 1 year old that’s quite clingy and twisty and she dealt with it superbly. My other son is 4 and he has loved going every time. She does really fun things with them (park, beamish, woods, building dens, picnics…) all things kids love and maybe with working parents they don’t get a chance to experience as often as we would like.
Her home is gorgeous, a beautiful setting for kids, always immaculately clean and smells lush. My children were made to feel like one of the family and instantly were at ease with Julie and her family. She is extremely knowledgeable and easy to talk too if you need advice about kids. It’s with a heavy heart that we have had to end the time the boys spent with her and our rely due to starting school or I would have definitely stayed out. I would definitely recommend her 1000 %.

Julie put me at ease the minute i visited. I knew straight away that i could trust my son with her. Julie is calm, caring, loving and my son absolutely loved going there!! He was always smiling and happy to see her. He enjoyed a wide range of outings/activities and Julie would keep up updated on his adventures each day! I would highly recommended Julie, and will certainly be using her again in the future when i return to work!!!

We were so happy with Julie as a childminder, was so sad when our son stopped going. Julie gave him such a breadth of experiences and it was so clear how happy he was to be left. Julie made our first time leaving our baby so much easier and we would definitely get back in touch in the future. Highly recommended xx
